The pattern is not measured only by hours, messages, or visible contact. The pattern is the total finite capacity a compartment consumes through attention, monitoring, anticipation, obligation, interruption, or reactivation readiness.

Structural Observation

Within the Narcy Studies Lab framework, Compartment Weight describes a capacity-based structural feature measuring how much finite attention, planning, monitoring, responsiveness, or readiness a compartment consumes that separates structural load from visible contact time. Some responsibilities temporarily consume significant mental capacity even when direct contact is limited. The structure begins when a compartment repeatedly consumes attention, readiness, planning, or interruption capacity beyond what its visible contact alone would suggest. Dormant does not mean weightless.

Field Guidance

Healthy systems can acknowledge capacity limits and adjust expectations when multiple commitments compete. Compartment Weight is different. Once the pattern becomes visible, visible contact and actual capacity consumption repeatedly diverge is no longer viewed as isolated events. It becomes part of the Compartmentalization structure.
