Dependency Reinforcement

Supply · Reliance · Reduced Independence

Questionable Event

?

Has repeated support, reassurance, rescue, access, or stabilization increased reliance on one person, role, relationship, or system over time?

The pattern is not receiving help. The pattern is functioning repeatedly routed through one source.

Primary Function

Strengthen reliance on a person, role, relationship, or system by repeatedly routing stability, reassurance, access, or problem-solving through that source.

  • Reassurance
  • Rescue
  • Stability Routing

Common Associations

  • Regulation Load
  • Access Management

Observable Outcomes

  • Repeated Rescue Requests
  • Frequent Reassurance Seeking
  • Reduced Independent Action
  • Reliance on One Source

Structural Observation

Within the Narcy Studies Lab framework, Dependency Reinforcement describes a structure in which repeated support, reassurance, rescue, access, or stabilization increases reliance on one person, role, relationship, or system. One request for help or period of appropriate dependence may be ordinary. The structure begins when independent action, confidence, decision-making, or recovery is repeatedly routed back through the same source, making that source increasingly necessary to ordinary functioning. Help begins to strengthen the need for more help.

Field Guidance

Caregiving, disability support, mentorship, partnership, learning, and crisis response can involve healthy reliance. Dependency Reinforcement is different. Once the pattern becomes visible, repeated rescue, reassurance seeking, decision hesitation, and reduced independent action are no longer viewed as isolated needs. They become part of the Supply structure.
