Omission describes a narrative mechanism that
shapes interpretation by leaving out information that would
materially change the meaning of an account.
No retelling includes every detail.
The structure begins when the missing information repeatedly falls
in the same protective direction. The initiating action disappears.
Sequence is shortened. Relevant context is excluded. The remaining
facts may be technically true while the resulting story is
substantially misleading.
The pattern is not what was said.
The pattern is what repeatedly had to be missing for the story to work.
Field Guidance
Healthy summaries leave out detail without removing information
necessary for fair interpretation.
Omission is different.
Once the pattern becomes visible, absent context is no longer viewed
as isolated brevity or forgetfulness. It becomes part of the
Narrative structure when the same categories of information are
repeatedly excluded to preserve a preferred conclusion.
