Structural Observation
Within the Narcy Studies Lab framework,
Narrative Repair describes a narrative mechanism
that restores a threatened story after contradiction, exposure, or
loss of credibility.
Clarifying an incomplete explanation may be entirely reasonable.
The structure begins when new explanations appear primarily to
preserve the original conclusion. Details are revised, motives are
reassigned, exceptions are introduced, and the story regains
coherence without fully addressing the contradiction that damaged it.
The pattern is not clarification.
The pattern is the story being repaired before the facts are reconsidered.
Field Guidance
Healthy correction changes the account when evidence requires it.
Narrative Repair is different.
Once the pattern becomes visible, revised explanations are no longer
viewed as independent clarification. They become part of the
Narrative structure when their consistent function is to protect the
preferred conclusion rather than improve accuracy.
